LTW to Berkeley!

I am SO excited. I mean, I am REALLY getting excited about starting a new table outreach on "Holy Hill" at Berkeley, where anything goes. It is like Venice Beach. We have been considering starting an outreach in San Jose, CA, for about 2 years now, but we could not find the right place. Well, we are now considering setting up a table ministry of apologetics at Berkeley, which is not that far from San Jose! For any Christian who loves to be challenged in "contending earnestly for the faith" (Jude 3) against "every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:14) in defense of Jesus' name (Acts 4:12), this opportunity is a dream! It is like doing mission work at Venice Beach or Boulder, CO in apologetics. Anything goes in such places, even a Christian believing in the Bible. I remember when I worked at Venice Beach, one guy whispered to another, "Does she really believe that?" (Of course, they were speaking of me). The other guy answered, "Yes, of course she really believes it. She really believes in Jesus as her Savior."

There they sat on the park bench at Venice Beach having such a conversation while I set up my table not far from them. As the Hare Krishna parades passed with inverted pentagrams on the sidewalks with cynics coloring the air blue with profanity. That is where the Christians need to be. Jesus saved us to be a "light" in "the world" and not just stay where we are comfortable and unchallenged in social institutions and comfortable churches, expecting the lost to somehow come to us. Here in postmodern, post-Christian America, we are called to go to them. The mission field is right here with pagan smorgasbords of religion right here on US soil. And where are the Christians? The people need answers! We need to study and give them an answer and let the light of Jesus shine through us to people who are blind but don't even know it or who are seeking for "something" and a peace that cannot compare to the peace Jesus offers. (The world does offer a peace. Yes, other religions offer a "peace", but it is not the same as the peace Jesus offers. In John 14:27, Jesus said, "My peace I give you... not as the world gives you..." For instance, yoga meditations DO offer a type of peace, but it is nothing compared to the peace of Jesus.)

Yep, it is a very dark place, "Holy Hill". Yet, we, as Christians, are called to "light the way"...!!

"...with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God might grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of truth and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will." 2 Timothy 2:25-26
