From leader, Claudette Litz:June 20, 2009
“And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 15:23) In the front lawn of the Sugarlands Visitor Center the Holy Spirit was at work all day compelling people to come over to the LTW table. I did not have to do anything but watch God at work. At the beginning of the day, before I had any materials on the table, a lady saw our sign with the words, “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence comes my help,” and she came over to ask me if I had a Bible she could have. She thanked me for it over and over and only wanted the Bible. It seemed to be a great treasure to her. The rest of the day was filled with the same, sweet Spirit.
All of the sermons on CDs and Bibles were gone by noon. Next week I will take more of them. I set up the table at 9:30. I had enough tracts and books, however, to last until 2:00 which was my scheduled time to leave. The number of tourists and local residents has increased due to this year being the 75th anniversary of the Great Smoky Mts. National Park. Each week this summer there are multiple activities throughout the park to celebrate its history.
God is drawing more young people than usual to our table, and I get so excited seeing their eagerness to know more about how to follow Jesus in the New Age culture in which we live. Their favorite items from the table are Christian Yoga? Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve, New Age Quest, 7 Modern-Day Scientists Who Oppose Evolution, and Where Do We Go From Here? Although all ages are represented in the course of the day, God is at work in young lives in ways that are totally His doing.
A young lady asked me to pray with her about the divorce she was possibly facing. She had a small child and did not know where her husband was. She took the DVDs and workbooks from Parent Talk On Call featuring Dr. Randy Carlson’s seminars on how to have a successful marriage. As we prayed together for God to bring her husband into a relationship with Him, the people around us became quiet.
One man took a Bible saying he needed to read it every day. He said he was a believer but had not been living for the Lord or reading the Bible.
A young lady with an Asian background was a doctor in Birmingham and expressed much gratitude for the sermons and tracts. She said she wanted to know more about Jesus and took one copy of each item available.
Children and parents appreciated the tracts and booklets about how science confirms the Bible, the Keys for Kids booklets published by the Children’s Bible Hour which features Uncle Charlie, the patriotic booklets of quotes from our nation’s founding fathers, and Not My Child (How, Why, and Where Paganism Connects with Kids) by Linda Harvey.
One of the most popular tracts of the day was “Where Do We Go From Here? Life After Death” published by the Radio Bible Class in Grand Rapids, MI.
Although I always look back on the day’s conversations with thanksgiving for the opportunity to speak for Jesus, I can usually think of some scripture I forgot to point out or some additional words I could have said. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit, and I know He can take my weaknesses and use them for God’s glory. However, as I prepare for next week, I look forward to another chance to do a better job for Him.
