LTW to the Smokies (Aug. 1)

Before all of the materials were on the table this morning, a lady saw the banner around the table and said she was studying the book of Nehemiah at her church. She even recalled the verse referenced on it: “Yet in Your manifold mercies, You did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day, to lead them on the road, nor the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way they should go.” (Neh. 9:19) Her husband is a special education teacher and a pastor. Their encouraging words were much appreciated since I felt a bit sick today. They took witnessing cards for Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons as well as The Way of the Shepherd, 7 Reasons Why We Should Not Accept Millions of Years, Where Do We Go From Here? and Keys for Kids. They were excited about ordering these materials for use in their church.

While I continued arranging the table, a man came over and said how wonderful it was to see someone planting seeds for the Lord. He asked me to pray for his wife who is very ill. She came to the table, also. We prayed together, and I gave her a CD of Dwayna’s songs: “I Must Tell Jesus” and “We’ll Understand It Better By and By.” Although I first refused his donation to the ministry, he insisted that God wanted him to do it, and I should allow him to follow God’s leading. Again, God intervened, and I was soon forgetting about my feelings and thanking Him for the opportunity to do anything I can for His glory.

A family came by who were members of the Missionary Alliance Church, and we had a good conversation about the work their missionaries are doing in Israel. I told them about two missionaries Dwayna and I helped in Tel AViv and Jerusalem last year. They took Sid Roth’s book They Thought for Themselves, Linda Harvey’s Not My Child, and various tracts to give to their lost friends. As they left, one of the ladies called back to me, “See you up there!” We had been talking about how Christians have the same Holy Spirit, and how we already were sisters in the faith.

One little girl liked the Pure Gold booklets so much, she began reading the scriptures on each page out loud so every one could hear them. It was very sweet to hear a child reading God’s promises with such pride.

A young couple from Calvary Baptist in Knoxville asked if they could pray for me and for the work God was doing in the lives of people today. We prayed together on the sidewalk, and I told them how much it meant to me, as the tears had already been flowing down my cheeks.

A man said He knew God had me there for him today. He was on his way to give the plan of salvation to some lost friends and found the perfect tracts at the table to give them. He took Where Do We Go From Here? Steps to Peace With God, Are You Good Enough to Go to Heeaven?, and a gospel of John.

A couple from Salt Lake City, Utah took a sample of each of the witnessing cards to Mormons and will be ordering them for their church. They thought the cards were excellent tools to use in their area.

All of the DVDs by Dr. Randy Carlson, “6 Secrets to Creating Your Dream Marriage,” were taken by couples who wanted to watch them in their condos while visiting the area. One lady said she could hardly wait to watch “My Intentional Life in Christ” with her husband. She felt he would watch it with her, although he did not go to church with her.

Parents continue to be appreciative of materials such as Is Anybody Out There? Keys for Kids, “Science Confirms the Bible,” and book-marks showing the time line of world events and The 70 Weeks of Daniel. Also, the DVDs of The Bible’s Big Picture by Compass International were very popular today. Several people took the CD of Hollie Miller’s sermon, “The Lordship of Jesus Christ.” One lady said she was working on that subject in her life, and I agreed that I was, too. Three copies of Warren Smith’s Deceived on Purpose were taken by pastors and youth leaders.

As the last person of the day left the table, he and his wife called from their car, “He’s Coming Soon!” I smiled and said, “Yes, He is!”
