LTW to the Smokies Outreach Today!

Update from Claudette Litz, leader of this outreach location, doing evangelism to tourists of the Smoky Mountain National Park...

The first person to approach the table this morning was a middle school science teacher from Chattanooga. We had much in common since I recently retired from teaching middle school students. After I told her I taught at Soddy-Daisy Jr. High in the 70’s, she and I had such a good time talking about how much we depend on God to help us each day. Her husband joined us in prayer, as I prayed for her, because she needs God to heal her from a disease called lupus. She took a Bible for her classroom, 7 Reasons Why We Should Not Accept Millions of Years, Where Do We Go From Here? Science Confirms the Bible, and Dwayna’s CD of “We Will Understand It Better By and By”, and “I Must Tell Jesus.”

One lady was celebrating her 91st birthday today. She saw Dr. Walter Martin’s CD and said taking it would be her special present, because she had read his book Kingdom of the Cults and had listened to him on the radio in years passed. She also took Keys for Kids and looked forward to reading it to her great grandchildren.

Another lady shared with me about a family member who recently was sent to prison. She said he was saved just before he was incarcerated. His communications with her lately have revealed his insecurity of his salvation and need for prayer. I gave her Steps to Peace With God, Where Do We Go From Here? two sermons, a CD of Dwayna singing “I Rest My Soul,” and a Bible. I also gave her a summary, which I typed a few weeks ago about the security of the believer from the words of Dr. J. Vernon McGee. We prayed together for her family member in prison. She said if she is unable to get these materials to him, she will read them and share her insights in letters until his sentence is completed.

As you can see in one of the pictures, the park rangers were interacting with the tourists today, especially answering the children’s questions about black bears. One of the rangers did a presentation close to my table, so many children stopped by with their parents. I gave out several copies of Keys for Kids. One of the parents had heard Uncle Charlie, the author of the booklet, on the radio for many years. We had a good time talking about the blessing he had been to our children as they were growing up listening to him each Saturday morning on the Children’s Bible Hour.

One of each of the small business size cards for Mormons was taken by a family who promised to read them. They noticed them on the table since they were Mormons. After listening as I read on the back of one of the cards the differences of the Jesus of Mormonism and the Jesus of the Bible, they stayed long enough to read with me Matt. 7:21-23. “Not every one that says unto Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name...and in Thy name have done many wonderful works: And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from Me..." I referred them to the website http://www.witforjesus.org/

There is an old hymn which states “Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness, sowing in the noon-tide and the dewy eve; waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping, we shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.” The Lord makes us willing to give our time to sow the seeds of Truth and stand up for Jesus. Perhaps we will never know, this side of heaven, the lives that will be brought into His kingdom because of a seed that was planted through a tract, song, or Bible verse which was shared. Matt. 9:38 states: “Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” I am thankful today that God let me have such a joy in spending a few hours telling others about Jesus!
