I remember when this ministry first began at Venice Beach and was really growing, a Christian came up to my table and said, “Remember. Stay low.”
He motioned with his hand downward and repeated, “Stay low, Dwayna.”
I heard a sermon last week by Paul Washer. In it, he said, “Come down from those high places. Be humble. You serve a lowly God who is humble and kind.”
But this same ‘lowliness’ is MIGHTY in Spirit. Because the Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead lives in me. Just to KNOW Him and feel Him near is worth staying ‘low’.
People sometimes ask me how this ministry began. The truth is, it cost me my life. How it brings tears to my eyes that God would ever let me give my life to Him and stay low for all glory to go to Jesus, the One who redeemed me.
I was witnessing to someone a few years back who had recently had an extramarital affair. She said she was a Christian, but serving God through Bible study and being a wife and mother was “boring.” I asked her if she had ever gotten all alone to sing hymns down on her knees to God. Though she was a singer, she responded as if she had never met Him like that in worship all alone. It is not boring to have the God of all creation as your Friend. He meets His own through the power of the Holy Spirit, and, yes, He is enough. After all, we only want such a time in prayer, because He wants it more with us.
Resting a little while with Him in prayer and worship,
Dwayna
