Recently I got an update from a man in Liberia asking me to help some orphans there by at least posting photos and a list of their needs. Touched by this plea, I seriously considered doing whatever I could do to help these orphans. The photos moved my heart to take this opportunity to the Lord. After prayer, however, I have realized that there are simply too many unanswered questions concerning this situation in Liberia. For instance, I have no way of knowing whether the orphans are learning about Jesus or if they are raised in Islam. I also don't know the director. Though I was invited to come and visit, I let the director know that it was not a practical opportunity for me, and I would not be able to come. I have removed the post about orphans in Liberia, because there is just too much I cannot know from a personal standpoint. I wish we could help everyone everywhere, but we simply cannot.
What this has made me want to do is to help the orphans of Haiti. There is a Christian who leads an outreach to orphans in Haiti, and he is the son of my mother's pastor, Hollie Miller. (We use Hollie Miller's sermons also in our table outreach locations throughout the country.) Hollie's son, John Miller, leads One Vision International, and he is in need of donations for the orphans as he is telling them also about Jesus and working as a missionary there.
As I was praying about what to do about the orphans in Liberia, realizing I did not know anyone personally in that situation, God brought John Miller to my mind and has burdened me to partner with him in providing for the orphans of Haiti by posting on their needs. Hopefully more will be written about One Vision International on the blog soon, as I get more information and photos.
"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and keep oneself unstained by the world." James 1:27
