Curt with three missionaries
Young man in black
We do our Rio Grande Valley table set-up the first Saturday of every month. We are having a grand time defending the precious Word of God. Our February ‘Table’ on Jackson St. was very busy.
It was the first Saturday in March, 2009, that we set up the first ‘Table’ on Jackson St. in Harlingen, Texas. We are very content with all aspects of the ministry. We are becoming familiar with several of the vendors and, in fact, assisted at our neighbor’s table while he took a break. He is from Africa and was selling beaded jewelry from Kenya. It was fun listening to him talk about his country and, of course, we were able to share what we were doing at our ‘booth’.
After inventorying our materials, we were pleased to see that 13 Bibles left the table. Four of which were Spanish and 5 of which were Kids’ Bibles. A Spanish speaking lady conveyed through her daughter that she had, “asked God for a Bible,” and she was thrilled to receive it that day. Another one of the Bibles went to a nurse who stopped by the table and was talking about her desire to share the gospel with her home-bound clients. She, too, was thrilled to receive a NKJV.
I want to say that the interest in kids’ materials was great, in that 29 sets of coloring pages on ‘obedience’ (with crayons) left the Table, but even more interesting was that 25 ‘Sample” copies of the CBH 12-Day Devotional also disappeared (most of which parents will have to read to their children).
We missed our ‘mentally challenged’ kids, but we did rekindle the interest of a young lady on her bike who could neither hear nor speak. She can read, and she took several materials. I look forward to developing a relationship there, Lord willing.
As is usual, Janie was able to discuss Catholicism with a couple of ladies. The new tract we just received “Rome vs. The Bible” was very helpful. (See photo of Janie with lady.)
There was much interest in “Where is God When Things Go Wrong?" by John Blanchard, as well as interest in the materials on “Life After Death”. (Do you think Haiti might be an influence here????).
We’re eager to introduce the new booklet “Is Anybody Out There?" by John Blanchard next month. It’s excellent reading on the ominiscience of God.
Curt was kept busy discussing the “emerging church” and the “Seeker Sensitive” materials…..Speaking of which, we were again pleased to receive the “2nd Edition” of A Time of Departing. Yungen speaks of universal spirituality and covers the plight of “America’s Pastor”, Rick Warren, with contemplative prayer. (See photo of young man in black.)
It’s always fun talking about creationism, and we’re grateful for the materials on that, as well as a multitude of other topics. Three visiting missionaries stopped by the Table and were excited with all of the materials on such a variety of topics. (See photo of Curt with 3 missionaries.)
Teachers love Dwayna’s booklet “31 Days of Quotes”, which we’re almost out of …..Dwayna….hint!!
With each Table set-up we learn so much about ministering the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We continue to covet your prayers that we never stop learning and sharing The Word with our many neighbors.
Relying on Him,
Curt and Janie Rolf – Rio Grande Valley
Inventory Update from Janie: I did send in the 5 CD's and 1 DVD to Mike & Carol at Firefighters. I also ordered and received 10 more Kids' Bibles as well as a couple of booklets from RBC Ministries 'Discovery Series' for Easter; I received English, as well as Spanish. I ordered and received 100 of the little "Hey Kids" tracts from Living Waters. Chapel Library sent a copy of a booklet entitled "Evolution or Creation?-Answers to Your Questions about Origins" - It's great! They are going to send 10 copies for the Table.
