Homosexuality and Teens

Nima Reza writes,

“The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) is sending a letter to school superintendents asking that they not tell students who may experience same-sex attractions to simply accept that they are homosexual…The letter cites studies that ‘demonstrate most adolescents who initially experience same-sex attraction, or are sexually confused, no longer experience such attractions by age 25.’

One such study shows as many as 26 percent of 12-year-olds reported being uncertain of their sexual orientation, yet only 2-3 percent of adults actually identify as homosexual. Therefore, the majority of sexually questioning youth ultimately adopt a heterosexual identity. Many schools, however, tell such questioning students that they should embrace homosexuality and identify themselves as gay.

Tom Benton, president of the ACP, said even children with Gender Identity Disorder, will ‘typically lose this desire…if the behavior is not reinforced. It is clear that when well-intentioned but misinformed school personnel encourage students to ‘come out as gay' and be ‘affirmed,'" he explained, "there is a serious risk of erroneously labeling students who may merely be experiencing transient sexual confusion and/or engaging in sexual experimentation. Premature labeling may then lead some adolescents into harmful homosexual behaviors that they otherwise would not pursue.’" (CitizenLink.com)

ACP’s stance challenges the reigning orthodoxy that homosexuals are just born that way. Instead, they point out that their early “sexual confusion” usually requires social/sexual reinforcement in order to establish the homosexual identity.

When other professional groups are bowing to the pressures of political correctness and intimidation, ACP is taking an independent and courageous stance.

According to LifeSiteNews.com, Arthur Goldberg, a board certified counselor and expert on assisting individuals with unwanted same-sex attraction, stated,

"Unfortunately prior to the American College of Pediatricians' effort to develop the new web site http://www.factsaboutyouth.com/ and the factual material they sent to school district superintendents, hundreds of false and misleading books, pamphlets, films, and other materials were absorbed - with our taxpayer dollars - into America's public school systems."

Sadly, the pamphlets state that homosexuality is a "normal expression of human sexuality" and that same-sex attraction should be affirmed as innate and therefore legitimate. Against this claim, Goldberg stated that,

"there is clear and convincing evidence that many factors can lead an adolescent into homosexual behavior - including curiosity, a feeling of not fitting in, the experience of earlier molestation, and a desire for attention or a sense of belonging. Teen years often serve as a transitional phase when affectional, emotional and identification needs can be too easily sexualized…the premature gay self-labeling that is encouraged by 'Just the Facts' and other such material presents major public health risks.”

Indeed! Encouraging same-sex sex is leads to a lifestyle that loops 20-24 years off the lifespan of gay men. How did this type of “encouragement” ever become “politically correct?”
