It was the day after Good Friday and the day before Resurrection Sunday….. the highest of holy days for any true believing Christian. The air should have been filled with anticipation and joy of God’s amazing miracle of our Lord Jesus Christ rising into heaven.
We wondered who God would bring to the table today. We knew our business was not to compete with Easter baskets, eggs, and bunnies. It was a day to share God’s love.
I struggled with the coloring pages, as the top page was a picture of our brutally beaten and bloody body of Jesus under the heavy weight of the cross. The pages just didn’t seem right. I couldn’t picture a small child coloring Jesus’ body with blood red. We gave out a few packets along with a CBH tract that told the story in a much more subdued manner. The cute story really did say it all, ending with “He Paid the Price." Amen, Amen!!!!
A middle-aged man spent a good ½ hour just talking. He wanted nothing to do with the materials on the table. He said he’s seen many miracles as the result of his twenty year military stint, and listening to him, indeed he had. It’s only by God’s grace he’s still here. I’m sure all of us have had moments when, like me, you’re just at a loss for words…..and just listen!!! This long conversation resulted in him meeting a long-lost cousin at our table. Perhaps, that’s precisely what God wanted to accomplish. His cousin is a vendor that we have come to know and enjoy.
I’m so grateful Curt brought his bilingual Bible. A lady with a young daughter questioned the phrase on our banner, “Let the little children come to me.” (Mark 10:14) She wanted to know how it was said in Spanish. I gave her the RBC Easter tracts on “The Mockery and Majesty of Calvary” and “The Forgiveness of God” in Spanish. The daughter took the “Story of Jesus” activity booklet in English.
We’ve noticed that the ministry is here for believers, also, and we agreed that our special person today was Laura, a winter-Texan who also was attracted to the table by the banner. She’s from Michigan. When she discovered that the devotionals for kids were from CBH-“Keys for Kids," she immediately asked for prayer for Uncle Charlie, who is struggling with some health issues. It was really sweet, as about fifteen minutes after we prayed for Charlie, she went on her way, only to hurriedly return to ask for prayer for Randy (in his 50’s) who is at Stage 4 of Hodgkins disease. We immediately obliged.
A young man was taken by the bright red occult printout and asked if he could take a couple of copies. I pray the Lord will use those printouts to His glory.
Barbara was a delightful lady. She was very interested in information about dinosaurs. It was fun to give her Chapel Library’s “Evolution or Creation?” and also “7 Reasons Why We Should Not Accept Millions of Years” (AIG), while discussing the iron mines in our home state of Minnesota. We couldn’t help but notice her hands crippled probably with arthritis.
A Grandma stopped by the Table, looked over the materials, took the Easter color pages, and said, “My granddaughter listens to 'Dwayna’s Free Music For Kids' all the time!!"
It was fun to watch our neighboring vendor carefully check over our materials. I gave her the Easter pair of RBC booklets. She returned to her booth and began reading. PTL!!!
I guess it wasn’t such a weird day after all. Coveting your prayers and relying on Him,
