This video will also show our work in action alongside the gay bars on Santa Monica Blvd. The photos will scroll to show our table of resources, all of which are available to the people passing for free. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgDESWKJAlk&feature=player_embedded#
Unlike the stereotype of ‘Christian’ ministries to homosexual communities, we do not hand out tracts randomly or “preach”. We don’t even ask the people to come over. With two signs welcoming them to the table reading, “A Heart for Him (Psalm 37:4)” and “We Are Sorry for the Way We Have Mistreated You,” people stop as they wish. They often stop after reading the sign to ask, “How have you mistreated me?” We then apologize on behalf of Christians who have been rude to them or Catholic priests who have molested in the name of God. God uses the humility of such an apology to the community, with the Holy Spirit subjugating their distrust for us, to make them open to listening what we have to say. We show them love and offer them anything for free from the table.
Ideally, they are interested in what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. When that happens, we ask permission to read them the Bible so as not to get charged with a “hate crime”. We ask, “Would you like to know what the Bible says about people or what the Bible says about homosexuality?” Realizing when God is at work the people are interested in learning more about the Bible, we see no need of pressuring anyone. If the person says, “No, I am not interested,” we thank them for their time and don’t take it any further. But, if they say, “Yes, I would,” we read them verses like Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9; and then verses on homosexuality such as 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. (We never take them to the text in Leviticus 18:22, because it is hard to explain in context of God’s punishment under the Law of stoning, etc., although it is interesting that Leviticus 18:23 actually addresses having sex with animals as an abomination.)
Some people feel they are under God’s grace, so they can live like the devil basically. We tell them that even under the New Covenant of grace, God is pure and condemns homosexuality, adultery and fornication. We take them to Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Ephesians 5. These verses exemplify the character of God as pure and His hatred for perversion. As you know, there are “homosexual churches” such as the Metropolitan Church, teaching that homosexuality is perfectly fine with God. This does not make our work any easier. However, it is not hard to debunk with Scripture, so we give the verses such as Romans 1: 26-28 to the “homosexual Christians” who stop by to talk.
Nothing is “forced” on anyone. We wait patiently while many people pass without stopping, realizing that salvation is God’s work and not ours. As God leads, cross-dressing married men stop by; guys whose fathers who are pastors and whose mothers are praying for them; teenage male prostitutes have come over to take the information; men stop who want to find the right girl to change them, and the list goes on and on! Most of the people quip, “God made me this way,” and that is where the testimonies and scientific information come in handy. We also have devotionals for people with H.I.V. and free Bibles.
