Hi Dwayna,
I ran into someone who said that her son belonged to a religion (she couldn't remember the name) that believes in the "literal" interpretation of the Bible and yet believes in the Mother of God. She said that her son is concerned that she convert for her salvation. It turns out that she has some Catholic upbringing but doesn't really believe in anything (only has a children's Bible) but seems to be superstitious. She has had three friends die recently, and she asked for pennies, nickels, and dimes to show her that her friends were ok. I told he she should have been asking for $100 bills. With your abundant experience, I was hoping that you might be able to tell me what the son's religion is (I'm in Orange County, CA). Also, I'm hoping that I can give her something that will help her lead her son out of his cult and save her at the same time. I told her I would look up some verses about God being the only God which she wanted. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you,
(C. H.)

My response:
Ok, well, I would start with Luke 1:47 where Mary admits she needs a Savior. She knew she was not perfect.(The Bible says ALL have sinned, including Mary, in Romans 3:23). Then, if you go to my web site under "articles" and look up the category of evangelical feminism, you will find a fact sheet I wrote about verses from Jeremiah to show why it is wrong to pray to the "queen of heaven." See Jeremiah 7:18. If the son believes in the "literal interpretation", maybe he can see through these verses that it is an abomination to pray to the "mother god" or "goddess." Plus, John 14:6 states clearly that Jesus is the only way to God, not Mary or any other "queen of heaven." In Jeremiah 7, God says that people who pray to a goddess or "mother" spite Him: "The children of God gather wood, and the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven, and they pour out drink offerings to other gods in order to spite Me." (Jeremiah 7:18) Praying to the goddess or "Mother of God" is the spirit of witchcraft. Demons certainly respond to such prayers. Hence, witches experience levitations often in their sensuous prayer circles (often in nudity) to the "goddess."
