Here is an email I received tonight from a prayer partner of our ministry:
I just saw the guy that has the "god hates fags" church on CNN. It's sad that he is claiming to represent Christians. The God I know, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, said there are a lot of things that are abominations, including sowing discord, lying and things we have come to think of as no big deal. Yes, homosexuals are wrong and will be judged, and we can discern the sin as wrong...though it is politically uncorrect to do so in our country now.....but this guy is way overboard, and it's sad. If he were my only window into Christianity, I'd never have become a Christian by his testimony alone...
Thank you for having a ministry that makes no excuses of homosexuality, but you show them God's love and forgiveness and freedom through Christ. ...I'd like to go by this guy's place and remind him that Romans doesn't stop in chapter 1 where God gives homosexuals over to a reprobate mind, but continues on to chapter 2 and beyond where it tells how we're suppose to behave as believers. We can't force people to live a life of freedom from sin without knowing Jesus first. What good does it do to make a gay man act straight if the heart hasn't changed? We can't change hearts, only the Holy Spirit can. Our job is to love and share so they can be broken by Him.
When I watch what your ministry is doing, that's what I am seeing. Someone who is sensitive to the need and doing it the right way. So thank you.
Yeah, this guy has the power to picket funerals of gay people, but he's not submitting to the authority of God. He's claiming God's on his side rather than being on God's side. I think he's going to be surprised to find out God doesn't take our side, we either take His side or suffer the consequence. Thus verse 2:1 of Romans.
My response:
David,
Thank you very much for the encouragement. It is terrible what those so called Christians are doing to the name of Christ. It certainly makes it confusing to the lost and more challenging to true Christians who come in humility and God's love. [The Bible clearly states that if we don't have love, we have nothing. (1 Corinthians 13), so it is safe to say that such people filled with hatred for homosexuals, Jews, and any other people group challenging their presuppositions are not Christians at all.]
Thanks for your support of this ministry and for your prayers.
Only by His grace,
Dwayna
