John writes this letter of 1 John because of the syncretism of the Gnostics of his day and its cancerous affect upon the church; it seems that same sort of theology abounds TODAY in “Christian” churches and circles. Rather than repenting of worldly and politically correct notions about Jesus (that HE is NOT the only way of salvation), people like Wright combine a bit of Jesus with his inclusive, popular man centered themes of Jesus, and then it is accepted into the church to speak! Clearly, those who deny the PERSON and WORK of the LORD JESUS CHRIST should not be welcomed into the church to instruct others (2 John 7-11). Having Wright speak at Redeemer puts that congregation in a position of being a “partaker of his evil deeds” and whatever false doctrines he espouses are being endorsed by Redeemer whether he speaks on them or not.
If a preacher of the Gospel and theology cannot speak on justification by faith and the blood atonement of Jesus Christ as the only way that man can come to God for forgiveness, then he has NOTHING TO SAY, for everything we say ultimately should lead to CHRIST and His Gospel. Isn’t that what has made Tim Keller sort of famous anyway?
