From Suzie:
Greetings from the Good News Friends,
We always pray for divine appointments, and meeting Shelly was one of them. He works with Corrective Services, and he shared how he supports all belief systems. I shared with him about coming out of Mormonism and how easy and comfortable it is not to really think through what you believe objectively, just assuming that the way we have been raised must be right.
However, when my mother who came from a long line of Mormons going back to Brigham Young ( hence my last name, Young) became a Christian, she challenged me not to stay a Mormon just because I was raised that way, nor to convert to Christianity because of her conversion but to study the Bible for myself and come to my own conclusion. I shared with Shelly that I have been studying different faiths for the past 30 years and that I am convinced that Jesus Christ and His claim as the only true God and Savior is valid; therefore, I reject all other gods as false-- including the notion that we can become gods ourselves as Mormonism teaches, along with many other heretical views.
I asked him if he believed that he was personally divine or that as humans we can become God? "Of course not!" he answered. I then explained that the paths that he support believe just that including Hinduism, Masonry, Rosicruianism, and all strands of the New Age. I explained more that someone can also come to that same conclusion through studying Course in Miracles, The Secret, TM or Contemplative Prayer. The lie goes all the way back to the garden when God told Adam and Eve that they could eat from any tree except for one. He told them that in the day they would eat it, they would surely die. The serpent came along to seduce them not to believe God but told them that if they ate the forbidden fruit they would become like God. As always, Satan was lying, and God was telling the truth. Sin entered man, and we all die spiritually and physically; however, God did not leave us without redemption. He loved us so much that even after rebelling against Him, as we all do, He sent His Son to pay the price for us, when He came and died on the cross and shed His blood to redeem us. God tells us there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Shelly listened, and we exchanged information, so we can keep in touch. We prayed that He, too, will come to know Jesus as His Lord and the only true God!
I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes! Romans 1:16
