The pastor asked how many people knew my grandmother, and about 25% of the people raised their hands (in a congregation of around 800 people.) My heart was touched as I thought of the Christian heritage the Lord has given me. My grandmother was very involved in the church and taught Sunday School until she could no longer attend due to health reasons in 1982.
My great-grandparents were also members of this church and lived right down the road from the church. God has been so good to my family, to give us faith in Jesus and let me know I will see all of my loved ones in heaven.
If I get a copy of the radio broadcast, I will share it. The sermon today was so great and refreshing, about how we get our worth as people in Jesus alone. The pastor said we are important because of God's love and not because of anything we accomplish. Because Jesus died for His own, we can have confidence that we are "important" no matter what. It made me want people to see more of Jesus and less of me, because He truly is the One worthy of all praise in my life.
I remembered singing solos of the hymns in this church as a child and thought about how much more I love the Lord today and how good He has been to me. I couldn't help but cry as I thought of how much God has blessed my life. I sang "'Til The Storm Passes By," my grandfather's favorite song, and "My Prize," a song I wrote about my greatest reward in life--my relationship with Jesus.
