Checking In
I am not sure exactly why God wanted me here this weekend with so much rain in the forecast, but I know He has a reason for everything. I trust I am meant to be at this conference tomorrow in Orange County on apologetics. The whole LTW team (who work at Venice Beach and West Hollywood) will hopefully be joining me at the conference.
Ray Yungen, author of A Time of Departing (exposing dangers of contemplative prayer); Warren Smith, author of A Wonderful Deception, The Light That Was Dark and Deceived on Purpose (exposing New Age paradigms in and out of the church); and Johanna Michaelsen, author of Beautiful Side of Evil (exposing the dangers of occult spirituality) will be there speaking along with others. Since we use these books and give them out via our LTW table outreach locations, it will be great for the team to meet these authors. I have never met Ray Yungen, and I am looking forward to meeting him. It will be a day of great encouragement for everyone as we want to tenaciously stand for the Bible and cling to it in these days of apostasy.
The conference will be held at Pacific Coast Calvary Chapel in Westminster, and I will be there from 9 A.M. to 3. Lord willing there will be more evangelism to do afterwards... I have invited many people, and I know of one person in particular who said he would come who is really struggling. Like I said, I am not quite sure why God let it rain this weekend, but He knows what He is doing. I pray He will be glorified through my life tomorrow at the conference.
As for Sunday, after I sing at Venice Foursquare Church, I plan to walk up and down the boardwalk and see my old friends at Venice Beach. Hopefully, we can talk about Jesus, even though I will not have the table set up on Sunday. The skies are supposed to be clear on Sunday with the rain gone.
Tonight we called off West Hollywood, due to rain. It has not been easy since I got here, but I am not going to complain. God gave me a round trip ticket on a Delta direct flight for 200.00 and a room for 60.00 a night. He is faithful to meet needs! The rental car, however, was so bad I felt it was not safe to drive. Today I took it back, and they replaced it with a very nice car. I woke up this morning, evidently from sleeping in a bad position, and I could barely turn my neck. I am sitting now with a heating pad. It is not the first time I have had a hard time on a mission trip or when I am scheduled to sing. I know all about spiritual warfare, but I also know all about how Jesus is victorious to use me in my weakness. In my weakness He is strong, and tonight I am praying for Him to heal my neck so I can turn it and sing easier on Sunday. It would also be nice to speak with people tomorrow without a stiff neck. I smile when I think of all I take for granted on a regular basis. What a comfort to know that nothing takes God by surprise. Nothing can touch us without His permission.
I love doing this work that is all about Jesus and not about me. Of course, I love it, because He lives in my heart. He saved me for this purpose!!

LTW Update: NYC Last Sunday
Below is an update from the team in NYC about how God was at work last Sunday at the evangelism and apologetics table...(If this update does not touch your heart, what will?!)
All materials are free to the lost and to Christians searching for answers. We have articles, sermons on CD, books, Bibles, tracts and DVDs.
Greg and Heidi sharing the joy of reading the Bible
Outreach table in NYC (setting up last Sunday after church at Times Square subway, since it is too cold to be outside)
Perhaps we could post a note to Christians to bring/send any music cds, Bibles, tracts that they want to donate as we did have a woman approach the table offering to do so. Many wouldn't normally think of combing their personal supplies or materials from their churches that could be such a blessing to the lost! I Just want to get the word out so that as many resources as possible can be given away.
Answered Prayer:
A dear Christian man has shipped more resources to Pastor Recker for this table ministry location. Praise God for how He provides!!!!!

Outreach table in NYC (setting up last Sunday after church at Times Square subway, since it is too cold to be outside) Hello Dwayna:
Greetings from the Crossroads of the World! a/k/a 42nd Street/Times Square. I have to say that God truly does work in mysterious ways....
First of all, I want to give Him the glory and sing praises. One song that sums it up would be "Ode to Joy"....
It seems the Holy Spirit was working in one accord this week. Since Suzi was out of town, we had decided (Christine and I) that we would take a break this Sunday and go out again upon Suzi's return from vacation. Funny how things work, as it seems that Christine and I were on the same wavelength during the week, and we both felt in our hearts that time is indeed short, the days are growing darker, and the people need to hear the words of salvation!! So, with the blessings of our Pastor, we decided to set up again in the subway.
The weather this past Sunday was a lot nicer, although it was still a little chilly. We arrived at our location and before we could even get the table set up with all our supplies, we were approched by NUMEROUS people desiring to take Bibles and tracts and CDs!! What a sight!!! I was a little overwhelmed, as I was trying to answer various questions as well as serve as encouragement for a gentleman who was so blessed to see us there. It was truly amazing, and Christine and I were so happy that people were coming up to us and were so delighted to take things, and they were also incredulous at the thought that all items were free of charge. One pair of Chinese Christian ladies were absolutely giddy to see all the materials and wanted so many different tracts, especially the ones concerning salvation and Jesus and the apologetic ones concerning the Roman Catholic church and religion vs. Biblical Christianity!
One Jewish man came over to the table hesistantly and I saw him, and I reiterated that he was free to take anything he desired, as all was free. He then asked if we had any Old Testaments, and I replied that unfortunately we were out of the complete Hebrew Bibles but that he was more than welcome to take the New Testament. Lo and behold, as he walked away, I saw that he did indeed take one!!! Praise Yeshua! I am especially happy when I see a Jewish person searching for the Messiah or at least wondering who Jesus is. What great honor to be able to hand him or her the Word of God and desiring that all would come to Jesus to be saved.
One other gentleman came over to the table and identified himself as a reporter from "The Huffington Post", a newspaper that is run by Adriana Huffington, an extremly liberal-biased publication. Apparently, he was gleaning information from the various ministries which tend to operate in the long tunnel passageway between 8th Ave. to 7th Ave. At first, he assumed that we were affiliated with another ministry, which operates at the opposite end from where we set up, but I explained that we were our own ministry. For those who do not know New York City and this subway location, the other ministry has been a mainstay for quite some time as they have several signs out with big, black, bold letters with verses from the Bible, although most of the verses only address judgment and hell, with a few regarding God's love and salvation. They also used to carry a wide assortment of Chick tracts, but for the past several weeks, it seems that there has been no ministry there, and the shelves are depleted of materials. In conversation, the man began to question me regarding salvation and what I believe regarding how one can be saved and who Jesus is, and how one cannot receive salvation unless they repent of their sins and put their trust in the Messiah. The gentleman commented that that seemed intolerant, because unless one believed what I believed, they were out of luck so to speak. I then replied that salvation is available to all men but not all men will come to salvation, which seemed to hit a chord with him. At that point, I invited him to e-mail us and to come visit our church to hear more about the Gospel and to ask further questions of my pastor.
A few Roman Catholics came over to the table with various questions. One young gentleman seemed to acknowledge what I was explaining to him, but he was stuck on the question of whether it was a bad thing to cross oneself and genuflect. I then explained to him that that is superstitious behavior, that once one is saved, the Holy Spirit resides within the person and they are under the blood and covering of Jesus. One becomes a child of God and there is not need for superstitious practices. I had to explain this several times, after which he finally understood and then I told him to email us with any additional questions and to come visit with us at church.
Another young lady who was Catholic came by the table, but she rejected the truth and stormed off. I felt burdened in my heart, and when we returned to the church offices, I made sure to include her in our prayers for salvation.
We were not harrassed by the police at all!! Thank goodness for that! We were also blessed to have Christian and Greg join us in handing out tracts. Greg is a young man who came to our table about a month ago and, since that time, has been attending Heritage Baptist Church. Christine was also quite busy handing out tracts and engaging with others regarding questions they had on various topics. All the Gospels of John were taken. Many people were asking for Spanish complete Bibles and DVDs, as well as music. We told them that we hoped to have more materials in the coming weeks. We also received a financial donation.
Another lady approached and explained to me that her nieces were involved with the Black Israelites, a cult which is somewhat popular with disenfranchised blacks here in New York City and that her husband was a muslim. She then took some Arabic materials for her husband to read concerning the Gospel. Hallelujah!!!
We were out at our location from about 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. and after a group prayer, we returned to the church office to drop off our supplies.
We both had such joy in our hearts and were thankful to Jesus that He gave us strength as we were weak physically, but somehow we had the energy to set up as usual.
We are still in prayer for more donations as well as laborers.
Shalom and Blessings.
In Christ,
Heidi

Also want to add that once again, Pastor Recker gave a shout out to the congregation about our ministry and encouraged them to come out and visit our table!!! He also indicated to me a few weeks ago that he and the elders have decided to incorporate our ministry into the church budget and will set aside funds every month to help us!!! In addition, he will continue to supply materials as he gets them!! He is a great Pastor!!!
One more thing I do want to add, is that is was a real encouragement when a fellow Christian came up to the table and told us that he was saved by reading a tract. He said his life was a mess, and he was handed a tract, and he was saved through reading it. Then, he also told us that God used him to help a young woman who was going to cut her wrists by giving her a tract that said "God loves you" on the front. Praise the Lord! He works in mysterious ways! Amen.

The Answer to Pain and Disappointment (by Daniel Mann)
Life drips pain and disappointment (2 Cor. 5:2). Understandably, we attempt to take refuge in God’s affirming embrace to experience His love. However, when we also pursue the “quick fix,” we become vulnerable to unbiblical techniques and mystical teachings like, “It’s far better to know God than to know more about God!” This saying suggests that we can find intimacy and comfort with God apart from what is Biblically prescribed – meditating on His Word day and night (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-3; Deut. 6:6-8).
Pain tends to narrow our focus, and we forget about the great blessedness promised through the knowledge of our Lord:
This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD (Jeremiah 9:23-24; also 2 Peter 1:2-4; Romans 12:2).
How the knowledge of God translates into blessings can be demonstrated in a thousand ways. For instance, Martin Luther had regarded himself as an alien from the mercies of God.
Consequently, he sacrificed all to become an Augustinian monk and priest. However, even afterwards, it was painfully obvious to him that he still had the same sinful struggles. He therefore regarded himself rejected by God until he became enlightened to the fact that these painful struggles accompany us throughout our Christian life (Gal. 5:17). This understanding comforted Him.
What comfort can we derive from trusting in mystical techniques to produce emotional experiences and intimacy? This pursuit is counter-productive. It places our experiences before His truth, unbiblical practice above Biblical prescription, and places our attention and hope upon our experiences and feelings above the glory of beholding our awesome God, according to His revealed truth (2 Cor. 3:18-4:6).
When we behold ourselves and experiences, we can find no basis for hope and edification. Yes, we are to examine ourselves to recognize our sins, but then to quickly offer up our dirt in confession to our Lord (1 John 1:8-9). I can think of nothing more depressing that meditating upon myself and my inner states. To see myself clearly is painful discouragement and self-absorption; to behold the God who loves me and has died for me is great joy. (If you don’t feel this way now, just persevere a little longer!)
God demands that we worship Him for who He in truth is (Romans 1:21), in spirit and truth (John 4:24). This is not only a joy; it’s also a necessity for any intimacy. If you are loved by your spouse because you remind him/her of a former lover, such a relationship is rotten at the core and will not stand. It is no wonder that God wants us to know Him as He truly is. No wonder He wants to be sought with an open and teachable mind.
Moses had been very discouraged in his ministry to rebellious Israel, but he knew what would make a difference – he needed to see the glory of God (Exodus 33:18). Instead of teaching Moses a new technique, He revealed the truth about Himself to Moses:
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation" (Exodus 34:6-7).

The "Religious Institute" Calls for More Talk About Sex
Below is an excerpt from Al Mohler's blog on the topic of pastors speaking about sexuality...
http://www.crosswalk.com/blogs/mohler/11626280/
More sex in the pulpit? That's the call from the Religious Institute -- a liberal organization that advocates "progressive" understandings of human sexuality. The group has issued a new report, "Spirituality and Religion 2020" that spells out goals for the next decade.
As a Religion Dispatches press release about the report explains, "While conservative pastors preach against homosexuality, pre-marital sex, and abortion, in the nation's more progressive pulpits, church leaders offer little or no guidance regarding human sexuality, leaving their flock without spiritual guidance as they grapple with these often wrenching issues in their private lives."
So, when this group calls for more talk and teaching about sex in the churches, it has in mind a very specific message. In 2000 the Religious Institute issued a "Religious Declaration on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing." As the group explains, that document "urged religious leaders and faith communities to promote comprehensive sexuality education, sexual and reproductive health, and the full inclusion of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons in religious communities and society at large."

At this link, liberal church historian Martin Marty gushes over the report from the Religious Institute: ttp://divinity.uchicago.edu/martycenter/publications/sightings/archive_2010/0222.shtml

Great Article Explaining Dangers of Contemplative Prayer
In addition to Lighthouse Trails Research, LTW also recommends this article by Marcia Montenegro explaining the dangers of contemplative prayer:

LTW Update: Rio Grande Valley
Here is another excellent update from Curt and Janie and the table outreach in the Rio Grande Valley...
Curt with three missionaries

We do our Rio Grande Valley table set-up the first Saturday of every month. We are having a grand time defending the precious Word of God. Our February ‘Table’ on Jackson St. was very busy.
It was the first Saturday in March, 2009, that we set up the first ‘Table’ on Jackson St. in Harlingen, Texas. We are very content with all aspects of the ministry. We are becoming familiar with several of the vendors and, in fact, assisted at our neighbor’s table while he took a break. He is from Africa and was selling beaded jewelry from Kenya. It was fun listening to him talk about his country and, of course, we were able to share what we were doing at our ‘booth’.
After inventorying our materials, we were pleased to see that 13 Bibles left the table. Four of which were Spanish and 5 of which were Kids’ Bibles. A Spanish speaking lady conveyed through her daughter that she had, “asked God for a Bible,” and she was thrilled to receive it that day. Another one of the Bibles went to a nurse who stopped by the table and was talking about her desire to share the gospel with her home-bound clients. She, too, was thrilled to receive a NKJV.
I want to say that the interest in kids’ materials was great, in that 29 sets of coloring pages on ‘obedience’ (with crayons) left the Table, but even more interesting was that 25 ‘Sample” copies of the CBH 12-Day Devotional also disappeared (most of which parents will have to read to their children).
We missed our ‘mentally challenged’ kids, but we did rekindle the interest of a young lady on her bike who could neither hear nor speak. She can read, and she took several materials. I look forward to developing a relationship there, Lord willing.
As is usual, Janie was able to discuss Catholicism with a couple of ladies. The new tract we just received “Rome vs. The Bible” was very helpful. (See photo of Janie with lady.)
There was much interest in “Where is God When Things Go Wrong?" by John Blanchard, as well as interest in the materials on “Life After Death”. (Do you think Haiti might be an influence here????).
We’re eager to introduce the new booklet “Is Anybody Out There?" by John Blanchard next month. It’s excellent reading on the ominiscience of God.
Curt was kept busy discussing the “emerging church” and the “Seeker Sensitive” materials…..Speaking of which, we were again pleased to receive the “2nd Edition” of A Time of Departing. Yungen speaks of universal spirituality and covers the plight of “America’s Pastor”, Rick Warren, with contemplative prayer. (See photo of young man in black.)
It’s always fun talking about creationism, and we’re grateful for the materials on that, as well as a multitude of other topics. Three visiting missionaries stopped by the Table and were excited with all of the materials on such a variety of topics. (See photo of Curt with 3 missionaries.)
Teachers love Dwayna’s booklet “31 Days of Quotes”, which we’re almost out of …..Dwayna….hint!!
With each Table set-up we learn so much about ministering the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We continue to covet your prayers that we never stop learning and sharing The Word with our many neighbors.

Inventory Update from Janie: I did send in the 5 CD's and 1 DVD to Mike & Carol at Firefighters. I also ordered and received 10 more Kids' Bibles as well as a couple of booklets from RBC Ministries 'Discovery Series' for Easter; I received English, as well as Spanish. I ordered and received 100 of the little "Hey Kids" tracts from Living Waters. Chapel Library sent a copy of a booklet entitled "Evolution or Creation?-Answers to Your Questions about Origins" - It's great! They are going to send 10 copies for the Table.
International Society for Women in Apologetics
I am thankful to be a member of this society for Christian women:
http://www.womeninapologetics.com/
The web site was just completed, and we will add the link to our blog roll.
Comment from blog reader:
Dear Dwayna,
...I was just checking out the women's apologetic site and some of the women. (Mainly to see if one happens to be near me.) I went to [one of the women listed] and clicked on her recommended books (I've found you can tell a lot by this), and her first recommendation was "Sacred Friendships." Well, naturally, I had to look it over. Wow, it is a book on "soul care" and "spiritual direction" and the open embrace of mystics. I attached the reviews. Then, I went to her blog which features the Manhattan Declaration. So, just wanted to let you know so you would understand her worldview. I hope this doesn't offend you, but I know you don't have the time or ability to research every jot and tittle. This problem is so rampant these days I think we would be hard pressed to find a handful of people that reject the onslaught of Contemplative Spirituality.

My response:
I am forwarding this to the leader of the society and will let everyone know the response. It is correct that I don't have time to research everything, so I appreciate this comment. I am certainly opposed to the Manhattan Declaration. As women in apologetics, we need to certainly be defending the truth and fight against the onslaught of contemplative spirituality.

Need for the Rio Grande Valley
We have a need for financial support for the Rio Grande Valley outreach location. As God leads and provides, we are asking Him for an extra $100.00 a month for this outreach to supplement support income we no longer have for this table outreach location. Photos and a summary will follow tonight on the blog.
There is a Fountain Who is a King!
I have had a great day with the Lord today. I took a walk alone with Him, praying to Him, and He gave me a swing in the shade where I could pray silently to Him, realizing that He knows my every thought.
I came home felt the need to hit my knees beside my bed for more prayer. Old songs I grew up singing came to mind, and I sang them to the Lord with them meaning even more to me now. Songs like: "So many souls have tested Him throughout the course of time; so many still reach out to Him with broken hearts and minds; It's so encouraging to know with no exception that they find; Jesus never fails...Jesus never fails; Jesus never fails; you might as well get thee behind me Satan you cannot prevail; 'cause Jesus never fails..."
But, my favorite song in my prayer time today is a praise song we sang this morning at church. (I am not sure about all the lyrics, but here is what I sang to God and felt His pleasure as I praised Him):
There is a Fountain
Who is a King
Victorious Warrior
And Lord of everything
My Rock, my Shelter
My very own
Mighty Redeemer
Who reigns upon the throne.
My prayers today have to do with the people dearest to my heart on earth--my family. It is a battle that Jesus can fight and win, but only He can.
It is so exciting to know Him as Savior! I pity anyone who misses out on the thrill of taking burdens to Him in prayer, for Him to answer for His glory. People don't know what they are missing when they don't know Jesus as LORD. Thank God, He is Lord over all the other spirits, and He watches over His own.
With Him working through my prayers, fighting battles on my knees,
Dwayna

LTW Update: NYC
Here is an update from the Good News team in NYC from last Sunday. They are still setting up in the subways due to weather. What passion! God bless this team as they tell others about Jesus every Sunday. I am honored to be working with them. I sent them a sign for their table reading, "Have You Heard the Good News? (John 14:6)" this week. Also, more Bibles in Spanish are on the way. They tell me the Lord is continuing to bring up people who want a Bible...

Hi Dwayna, blessings to you in the Name of the One who is the Way, the Truth and the Life!!
We set up in our usual spot underneath Times Square in the subway tunnel with our usual ministry materials, including some additional donated Answers in Genesis topical booklets donated by Pastor Matthew Recker of Heritage Baptist Church here in New York City, in addition to some extra Hebrew/English and Hebrew/other languages New Testaments.
Thank goodness the weather wasn't as frigid as the previous Sunday. We were out at our location from about 2:30 P.M. or so until about 5:30 P.M. We were blessed to have our friend and new team member, Christian, volunteer again to minister and help us with handing out tracts and engaging with people, in addition to another friend, Francisco, who came to visit us. Many people took resources and, without sounding like I am being repetitive, ALL THE BIBLES WERE TAKEN!!! Praise God!!
When we were out last Sunday, we were told by the police that we would not be able to play our music, which saddened us, so this time around, Suzi graced us with some singing and also gave us a preview of a song that she is composing. I believe that we may have had some Jewish people come over to look at the Brit Chadasshah (New Testament). One man came and took various Arabic materials in addition to some of the Hebrew materials to use in his ministry to people he knows.
It was a good day!!! We were able to give out our e-mail address to some people and we also received some donations from others who wanted to bless our ministry.
We look forward to being able to continue in this ministry with ever more materials and we greatly appreciate all the donations we have been receiving from both yourself and on our end.
May God continue to pour out His mercy and favor upon His servants!!
Shalom,
Heidi
I want to add that it is also such a blessing when fellow Christians come up to the table to talk and offer encouragement, also providing us with an opportunity to share with them or inform them about the various false teachings/ practices that are so prevalent in some churches today. Some indicate having no idea while some have an awareness of it but show no real concern about it at this point. It does help to have those books from Ray Yungen, Warren Smith and Roger Oakland readily available!
To God be the glory!

Excerpt from 'Look Unto Me' (Saved to have a CLOSE relationship with God)
Isaac ... lived near Beer Lahai Roi. (Genesis 25:11)
From the pen of Charles Spurgeon:
Hagar had once found deliverance at this well, and Ishmael had drunk from the water that God, who "looks down and sees all mankind" (Ps. 33:13), had so graciously revealed. But Hagar and Ishmael's visit was merely a casual visit, the kind people extend to the Lord only during their times of need and only when it serves their purposes. They cry out to Him in times of trouble but forsake Him in times of prosperity.
Yet Isaac lived there and made this well of the living, all-seeing God his constant source of supply. The usual tone of a person's life, or the condition of his soul, is the evidence of his true nature. Perhaps it was the providential visit experienced by Hagar that led Isaac to revere this place or perhaps it was its spiritual name--the well of the Living One who sees me--that endeared it to him. His frequent times of evening meditation by its side had make him familiar with the well, and the fact he had met Rebecca there made his spirit feel at home by it. But best of all it was primarily that he enjoyed fellowship with the living God there that he selected this holy ground to be his home.
Let us learn to live in the presence of the living God and pray through the Holy Spirit that this and every day we may sense, "You are the God who sees me" (Gen. 16:13). May the Lord Jehovah be a well to us--delightful, comforting, unfailing--and "a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:14). As created beings our reservoir dries up and eventually cracks, but the well of the Creator never fails.
Happy is the person who lives by the well, having an abundant and constant supply close at hand. The Lord is a sure supply of help, for His name is El Shaddai--the all-sufficient, almighty God. Our hearts have often enjoyed the most delightful fellowship with Him and through Him our soul has found its glorious Husband, the Lord Jesus. "In him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28). For this reason may we dwell in the closest fellowship with Him as possible.
Glorious Lord, may You cause us to never leave You, but to live by the well of the living God.
From the pen of Jim Reimann:
Beer Lahai Roi, or "the well of the living One who sees me," is deep in the Negev desert. Although it appears to be "god-forsaken," it is the very place the Lord saw Hagar, pregnant and running away in fear. It was here He appeared to her, promising, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count" (Gen. 16:10).
The prophet Elijah also ran in fear "a day's journey into the desert ... and prayed that he might die. 'I have had enough, LORD,' he said. 'Take my life'" (1 Kings 19:4). Yet it was here in the desert he heard the Lord's "still small voice" (v. 12 KJV).
How often do we too run to the desert before hearing the Lord! Why is it that it often takes just that for our ears to be opened? Yet "we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7 KJV). "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it'" (Isa. 30:21)

Progress Report
With so much to do, I set daily and weekly goals. I like to keep everyone abreast of the progress we are making, as we are growing, to let people who pray for us and support the ministry financially know how I am spending my time.
I accomplished my goal for last night--I compiled photos to show our outreach locations in action for a new DVD. This was tedious work, as I had to look through hundreds of photos saved on my computer. The distributor for the video said she liked what I sent her, so that project is done.
As for today, I have not stopped. It has been another big shipping day. I was finally able to get the sign for the NYC outreach table shipped for free with a coupon for UPS shipping at Staples. It should arrive next week in New York. We are so thankful for Pastor Matthew Recker, as he is able to take boxes of Bibles and resources and supplies by mail, so the team members don't have to carry all of these things afoot in NYC. I also shipped out several boxes to locations such as TN, Rio Grande Valley and Venice Beach for our outreach locations.
I had one errand to run after another today and came home to find beautiful flowers delivered from my dad and his wife, Kim, in celebration of my birthday tomorrow. I love the flowers!!!!!!
So, tonight, I plan to work on web site updates and answer emails. The goal for tonight and tomorrow is to file ALL receipts for 2010 in the appropriate categories for our bookkeeper. Now that he is almost done with the balance sheets for the accountant for 2009, we are ready to hone in on 2010. I file them and pay our bookkeeper by the hour to data entry all the receipts into Quickbooks. Some people ask, "Can't you do that to save money?" I answer, "Do you know how many receipts we have?" It takes hours and hours, and I am more than happy to pay the bookkeeper. Plus, I don't know Quickbooks like a bookkeeper knows the software, so I thank God for the help. (We have had a bookkeeper to help with this since 2003.)
I look forward to answering emails tonight and posting more updates on the web site!

How Does Someone Start A LTW Table Outreach?

I get this question so often, I decided to post the answer I just gave a Christian by email:
Well, it is a partnership with at least one local church. We have to share in the expenses of Bibles and other resources. It usually works like this:
1, God burdens someone to lead it. (I have to know someone enough to know the doctrine is sound and there is no "yelling" at people; we only want to work in humility.)
2. The person presents the idea to the church.
3. The church partners with LTW.
4. Updates and photos are sent regularly and materials are shared (mainly coming from LTW) to reach atheists, New Agers, Mormons, homosexuals, etc…

"Visioneering" an "Unusual Tomorrow"
They can "visioneer" all they want. The road will always be narrow that leads to life with "few" who find it, just like the Bible teaches. The seeker friendly movement is just making people confused, as it seems that anyone can call himself or herself a Christian these days with this panentheistic spirituality, cloaked in Christian terms, on the rise.

'Sharing Jesus without Fear' to John Denver
Bill Fay, author of Share Jesus without Fear, recounts this interesting story of witnessing to John Denver, the famous New Age singer. This story shows that salvation is God's work and not the work of man. Someone can know every single Bible verse; someone can have all the right answers, and they can still be on the road to hell apart from God's mercy.
John Denver's Opportunity Lost?
Bill Fay
Baptist Press
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- In the Scripture, God says He is always at work, and He expects us to be about His work daily, too.
One day in a frequent flyer room, I looked over and saw John Denver. It was pretty obvious with his distinct features and signature guitar that it was him.
I went over and said, "John!"
He jumped up, stuck out his hand and said, "I haven't seen you in a while."
I said, "No sir, we've never met. But I am a man who's prayed for you for over five years, and I have a message for you from your dead father, Dutch."
You see, years earlier, in the height of my pagan lifestyle, John Denver's father was the co-pilot on the Learjet that used to fly me around the country to do my illegal mob business.
His father -- whose hand I held when he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ -- made me promise that one day I would share with his son. I said, "Dutch, if God provides the moment, the privilege is mine."
Now it looked like the moment was going to come.
I met with John in a private room in the Denver airport for the better part of two hours. I took him line by line through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
There wasn't a single verse of Scripture he did not understand -- nor was there a single verse of Scripture that he would accept.
Finally, I said, "John, when did you make up your mind Jesus Christ would never become your Lord and your Savior?"
He could remember the date, the time and the place. A godly Sunday School teacher, like some of you, said to him Jesus Christ was The Way, The Truth and The Life.
I left with a saddened heart, tears in my eyes.
I asked God, "Why did You go to all this trouble if John Denver was not going to accept You?"
And a verse of Scripture came into my heart that took evangelism to another level for me. I hope it will for you. It comes out of 2 Corinthians 2:16, and it says, "To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life."
The word "death" in Scripture means eternal separation from God.
Wherever you go, to whomever you speak, wherever you stand, you represent life and you represent death -- for you and them it will be either an opportunity, or an opportunity lost.

John Denver's Opportunity Lost?

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- In the Scripture, God says He is always at work, and He expects us to be about His work daily, too.
One day in a frequent flyer room, I looked over and saw John Denver. It was pretty obvious with his distinct features and signature guitar that it was him.
I went over and said, "John!"
He jumped up, stuck out his hand and said, "I haven't seen you in a while."
I said, "No sir, we've never met. But I am a man who's prayed for you for over five years, and I have a message for you from your dead father, Dutch."

Seeker Friendly Pastor Cliques
Is "Christianity" becoming a clique or some sort of popularity contest? Read article about a "'seeker friendly' church support group" in Orange County here.
"On Sunday Crossline – the church that began as a small Bible group in Laguna Hills – celebrates its fifth anniversary with services at 9 and 11 a.m. Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren will prepare a video with a blessing for Crossline's new home. Harvest Crusade Pastor Greg Laurie also is expected to air a video during Sunday's services. "
For more information on Rick Warren's clique of pastors and global "quantum spirituality", I highly recommend the new book by Warren Smith entitled A Wonderful Deception.

Bible Contradictions? (by Daniel Mann)
Allegations Come with Ease; Proofs are another Matter
(By Daniel Mann)
Bart Ehrman, agnostic and head of the religion department at the University of North Carolina, has just written a new book, Jesus Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible. For his first alleged contradiction, he cites Jesus’ cleansing of the Temple:
“In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables” (John 2:14-15; also Mat. 21:12; Mark 11:15; Luke 19:45-46).
However, John’s account occurs at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, while the last three record it as happening at the end. Some interpreters suggest that this “cleansing” occurred on two occasions. So where’s the contradiction? Ehrman charges:
“But that would mean that neither Mark [nor Matthew and Luke] nor John tells the ‘true’ story, since in both accounts, he cleanses the Temple only once.” (7)
However, why would “true” reporting require that every occasion or detail be cited? No account can claim all the details regarding the people present, the clothing they wore, and their exact positions and movements.
Ehrman then objects, “If Jesus made a disruption of the Temple at the beginning of his ministry, why wasn’t he arrested by the authorities then?” Well, evidently, the sellers were doing something wrong, or Jesus wouldn’t have disrupted them. Perhaps, by arresting Him, the authorities perceived that this might place them in an unfavorable light among the people?
There are many things that we can’t say with certainty, but this doesn’t prove that there’s a contradiction. In fact, we should expect that difficult questions would arise, especially if the document is God-given. There is much about the physical world that remains uncertain. Some scientists argue that the questions are only growing. However, this should not invalidate the findings of science – nor should the uncertainties that arise from Scripture!
Let’s consider a competing option – there was only one “cleansing,” but John placed this same event at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry instead of at the end. If this is the case, Ehrman concludes, “Historically speaking, then, the accounts are not reconcilable.”
However, perhaps it wasn’t John’s intention to give a chronological accounting? Does this place his account in error? No! If someone asks me to give account of the things I did Sunday, and I don’t give them in order, this doesn’t make my account incorrect.
Throughout his book, Ehrman gleefully makes many unwarranted assertions. Why? Perhaps because bold charges sell books? Perhaps, he has an ax to grind? Attached to the sub-title of his book, Revealing the Hidden Contradictions of the Bible, he parenthetically adds “and why we don’t know about them.” This addition obtusely hints at something sinister – a cover-up. In any event, we will examine more of his allegations.

Work Update
I got the latest ministry newsletter out to everyone on the email list Sunday night. Yesterday I did not stop--I worked out mailout packages and worked in the storage unit, organizing supplies. I also worked on the new file categories for 2010 for our bookkeeper. By the time the day was over and I finished all of that, I was too tired to even post on the blog.
Today I am working with my cable guy from Comcast, because the cable keeps giving me trouble. My goal for the day is a pretty big one--finish a new project for yet another ministry video to show all of our locations in action. A distributor is working with me on this for free to be distributed through her site. My goal is to get all of the photos to her she needs today. I will also be catching up on emails and posting more news on the blog.
Tomorrow: plans are to finish the "Philippines" location and "Pickering" for the web site.

My Favorite Contemporary Figure for Valentine's Day: Condi Rice
I just loved a biography I saw on this extraordinary, Christian woman who has never been married. She is very happy and fulfilled as a single person, as she has accepted how her life has unfolded without marriage and children. She said that it was not that she has rejected marriage but that it was a plan that had never unfolded for her, so she is at peace with God's plan. She could play the hymns on the piano at age 3.
Her grandfather was a pastor in Alabama at a Presbyterian church. She skipped grades in school, because of her high IQ. It is no mystery to me why she has never been married...
She discloses in online interviews that her religious convictions make it harder for her to find someone compatible. Good for her!
I sat with so much respect for her as I watched her biography tonight. She is a great role model for other Christian women. She does not impress me as a lonely person at all, and I really like the kind of woman she is. It is nice to read about a woman like her, because I would rather be like her--single!--and all I can be for God than married to anyone who does not fit with who I am in Jesus and all His plans for my life.

LTW to Nursing Homes (Misc.Photos)
Visiting nursing home and assisted living facilities is another happy facet of this ministry. I love to sing the hymns and read the Bible to the residents. My mother, Claudette Litz, visits weekly in TN when it is too cold to set up the outreach table outside of Gatlinburg. We bring them Bibles and books and pray with them. Last week, my nephews and niece went with us...

Work and Announcements
I am working on compiling links for the next ministry update, which I plan to send to everyone no later than tomorrow after church. I used to get these out weekly, but, now that we have grown, I do well to get them sent out monthly. To be added to the email list go to the "contact us" page on www.lightingthewayworldwide.org .
I am going to dinner tonight with a friend and treating myself to the symphony! (Seats are as inexpensive as 19.00 and worth every penny.)
I have packaged up 5 more shipments of supplies to our various locations this morning with more work scheduled in the storage unit for Monday. So far, we remain organized--we are working with Firefighters for Christ now for all the CD and DVD copies we need to keep the outreach stocked and growing. FFC is a ministry of CD and DVD duplication for the purpose of giving resources in evangelism for free.
The team in CO is moving supplies and resources to a church in Boulder, so it is a blessing to have this new storage space there...
I am making arrangements for my next trip to LA to work our outreach locations there at the end of this month. (I have not been back to CA to check on our outreach tables there and work with the teams in over a year.)

LTW Update: NYC
Here is an update from NYC team on the ministry last Sunday, setting up the outreach table. Notice, God has added a man to the team, Christian, to work with us in evangelism in NYC regularly! This is an answer to prayer. (As I wrote in a previous post, they get to have all the fun on Valentine's Day enjoying their relationship with God and feeling His LOVE as they tell people about Jesus after church tomorrow once again. What passion, to set up in the cold subways!)...

Greetings from the Good News Friends,
Though the weather has been chilly, we had another great day handing out the Word of Life! We always pray for protection and favor and that God will send those who are searching for truth. I have yet to see any of our tracts or publications on the ground and trust that God is faithful to draw those who are hungry and thirsty for He alone satisfies!
I so enjoyed Jacob's response as he motioned me over and quietly asked what his Hebrew Bible was doing on our book table??? I explained that Jesus truly was and is the Messiah and fulfilled all the prophesies concerning Himself. We had a lively discussion and he agreed to read the book, They thought for themselves, which includes testimonies of several Jews who have found Jesus to be the Messiah! We pray that Jacob will also consider the claims of Christ and find new life in Him!
We have been offering prayer for those who are hurting or in need of the the Lord's help. Rolando opened up and shared the pain of losing his father and after we prayed for him, he said he felt encouraged and strengthened in his faith. Truly our God is full of compassion and heals the broken hearted. What a joy to reach out to a hurting brother and pray for God's peace and healing in his life!
We have been asking the Lord of the harvest to raise up more laborers to go into the field for truly the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few! The Lord sent Christian to us this week who has worked with Dwayna before and he and I have done outreaches together in Jackson Heights. He is very open and relational and loves to talk to others about Jesus and earnestly contend for our precious faith!
Lord please make us humble servants to shine forth your truth in love!

Happy
"...isn't it grand that we have the Best Valentine ever!! And with Jesus there's never any regrets!" (email last night from one of the team members of our NYC outreach)
I wholeheartedly concur!!! Better is a life lived close to Jesus than a life with anyone else! All good gifts come from the Father, and we don't have time or want anything from the enemy, that is for sure, or any compromise that would keep us from being all Jesus saved us to be! After all, He has made us FREE, and we don't want to be "entangled" in sins that "enslave". (Galatians 4 and 5).
(By the way, most of the time what the world considers "love" is not love at all.)
So, to all the single women, have a Happy Valentine's Day in Jesus! No need to feel lonely, especially if we are busy in ministry and service. He really does make us happy with a such a loving, pure, honest spirit from our God. (Satan can offer us nothing!)

Answering Tough Objections (by Daniel Mann)
Our Struggle for Assurance
Daniel Mann
We so desire the assurance of God’s love, but sometimes it seems as if His Scripture presents the biggest obstacles. For instance:
“Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
I’ve often found this verse, and many like it, very troubling. I had been trying my best to trust that salvation is a free gift, only to encounter a verse like this, which seems to suggest that there is some fine print involved in the promise of salvation as a free gift. It seems to say that I must achieve a level of holiness before I can expect to become God’s child eternally. It’s like signing up for a home-owners’ loan to later discover that the interest has skyrocketed.
How can we have a peace and joy in believing when the source of our belief – Scripture – seems to say such contradictory things? If the foundation isn’t solid, how can the house built upon it be solid? And without the assurance that comes from believing that we are safe in a God who loves us beyond comprehension (Eph. 3:17-20), we’re doomed to continual, morbid self-examination to convince and then re-convince ourselves that we have achieved an adequate level of holiness.
To compound the problem, if our own holiness is the ticket, even in part, into heaven, then we’re condemned to feverishly trying to convince myself that I have the winning ticket, that I am worthy to enter this exclusive party. Such thinking is the breeding ground of self-deception, self-righteousness, and self-absorption – not very pleasant fruit.
Indeed, Scripture can wound, but Scripture can also heal us from those wounds. I found great comfort in learning about the lives of the Patriarchs. Jesus affirms that they will enter the Kingdom of God (Luke 13:28). However, when we scrutinize their lives, we are appalled, at least initially, by what we find. Abraham had made his wife Sarah into a prostitute. As they journeyed the various provinces in the Promised Land, he would coerce Sarah into claiming that she was his sister so that he could derive some material benefits. On one such occasion, because of her beauty, the king of the Philistines took her as one of his wives. However, God prevented him from having sex with her and warned him to return Sarah to her husband.
When the king asked Abraham how he could have done such a despicable thing, Abraham lamely tried to justify himself:
"I said to myself, 'There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.' Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. And when God had me wander from my father's household, I said to her, 'This is how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my brother." ' " (Genesis 20:11-13)
On many accounts, Abraham seemed to have failed the holiness test. Of course, his nephew Lot was no better. He fell in love with the life of Sodom, even though it was infested with rapists. He was willing to sacrifice his two virgin daughters to the raping mob, and even after that, he had to be coerced into leaving that hell-hole, and then begged permission to reside in Sodom’s sister-city. Nevertheless, he is also regarded by God as a righteous man whose heart was grieved by the sin of his beloved city (2 Peter 2:7)!
How do we make sense out of these contradictory portraits? These aren’t unusual. In fact, we find them so often, that we are forced to try to make sense out of them. Jacob was the biggest conniver. Even his name reflected this fact. He swindled his brother Esau out of his birthright, deceived his father Isaac into giving him the blessing intended for Esau, and then spent the next several years competing with uncle Laban to be the cleverest swindler. Nevertheless, Jacob remains beloved of God (Romans 9:13).
All of these examples confront us with peculiar cases of people who fell short of holiness and yet were among the blessed of God. We can add to these many more – David who committed adultery, murder and deception; Peter who denied the Lord; Isaac who also pimped his wife; Paul who persecuted the church and caused Christians to disown their faith. Yet these miscreants found mercy because they repented. We can even say that our God worked lovingly in their hearts to bring forth this repentance (2 Tim. 2:25; Acts 5:31).
So how do we deal with the Bible’s requirement for holiness? The Book of Hebrews provides the reverse illustration of Esau to help us understand. Although Esau was nobler than Jacob, he lacked a heart for the things of God. In fact, Hebrews, after asserting the need for holiness, warns us about being like Esau:
“Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.” (Hebrews 12:16-17, NKJV)
Esau wanted his father’s blessing – it carried certain benefits – but he wasn’t interested in God. While he fought to have the blessing and even tried to kill Jacob, he never repented or was willing to confess his sins. He never came to terms with the fact that his life was devoted to self and not to the things of God. Had he been interested in God, he would have had more esteem for his spiritual birthright.
The resolution comes across like a trumpet blast: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!!!” (1 John 1:9). This is what had made all the difference for the Patriarchs.
I don’t think we sufficiently appreciate what our Savior has promised us. In receiving God’s pardon, the past is no longer remembered. Abraham becomes a prince, and Jesus castigates the religious leadership for not having done the works of Abraham (John 8:39)! Clearly, Jesus would now only see holiness in Abraham.
Israel had been full of rebellion and criticized Moses for taking them away from their security in Egypt, yet our mysterious God declares of them: “By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land” ( Hebrews 11:29).
Job had been dishing out many accusations against God, but after he repented of his rash speech, God declared to his judgmental friends: "My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has” ( Job 42:7-8). According to God, Job had spoken correctly. Evidently, all of Job’s railing had been obliterated, cleansed away!
We will always struggle with sin in this temptation-filled life, where our own holiness is unobtainable. However, our blessed Savior has provided a safety net – He will forgive and cleanse us as soon as we cry out to Him, even if we sin 70 x 7 times! Glory be His Name forever and ever!

Why Christians Worship on Sunday
By Brent Barnett
The early church met for corporate worship on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, the same day Christ rose from the dead (Matthew 28:1). Acts 20:7 says, “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight.” Also, 1 Corinthians 16:2 says, “On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.” These verses provide clear evidence that the early church did in fact assemble together on Sunday, not Saturday.
The Biblical reason for the change from the Sabbath day, Saturday, to Sunday, is first and foremost the fact that it is in commemoration of the resurrection of Christ, which sealed the deal in establishing the new covenant. The old covenant, part of which was the keeping of the Sabbath, has been replaced by a new and better covenant (Hebrews 8:6). Further evidence that the Sabbath day no longer needs to be kept is the fact that we are no longer under law but under grace (Romans 6:14). We don’t keep the Sabbath to fulfill the Law because Christ has already fulfilled it (Romans 8:4). Rather, we assemble together with others on Sunday for worship, for growth, and for being moved to good works (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Colossians 2:15-17 says, “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.” The application is that we need to make Christ the center of our focus. The Sabbath was part of the Law, which was not given to save us but to show us our need for a Savior, namely Christ (Galatians 3:24). Thus, rather than go back and try to keep the Law, we are to rather honor Christ by living out the law of Christ, which is that we love God with our whole heart and mind and love others with a selfless love (Galatians 6:2). If we do this, we, through Christ, show evidence that we have been redeemed. Living according to keeping the Sabbath misses the point for the believer under the new covenant. The Sabbath rest that we have been given is rest from enslavement to sin (Hebrews 4:9-10). It is not simply about being inactive for a period of 24 hours. That is why Christ purposefully healed people and did ministry on Saturday as a means of demonstrating that He was Lord over the Sabbath (Luke 6:5). It is about Christ and not about legalistically ceasing from all activity. There is merit to setting aside time for rest (Exodus 20:10-11), but there is nothing wrong with doing ministry or other activities on Saturday.
Some Christians translate the Sabbath principles of ceasing from doing work to meaning that we must not do any work on Sundays. They might have all kinds of religious activities planned for the day, and they might set up rules for what people can and cannot do. This is a Pharisaical approach to living the Christian life, and it is not right according to the new life and freedom in Christ. Sunday is not about doing nothing or doing only religious things. It is about gathering with God’s people for worship, and it is about honoring God in whatever we do (Colossians 3:17), regardless of whether some might classify it as “work” or not.
Returning to living under the Law as if Christ never came to establish a new covenant is just insensible. If we were to go back and live under the Law, then we would need to get a priesthood and a system of animal sacrifices as well if we want to be consistent. The Sabbath was a Jewish thing, a sign of their being the people of God. Ezekiel 20:12 says, “Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.” We are under a new and different covenant wherein we see the full meaning of what was merely a shadow before. The Sabbath for us is a resting from our sin and disobedience and being reconciled to God through faith in Christ. Knowing Jesus and having eternal life is the fullness of our “Sabbath,” our rest (Hebrews 4:1-11).
There are many who are vehement about worshipping on Saturday rather than Sunday, and I have been told many times myself that it is an issue of salvation that is at stake in refusing to rest on Saturday. This unfortunately is false teaching that makes salvation a result of law-keeping rather than faith in Christ. A proper understanding of Jesus and of the new covenant frees us from legalism and enables us to worship God freely on all days and at all times. In such freedom, life, and hope, we join with all who have embraced faith in the Messiah Who has come to save us from our sins, and we worship on Sunday as the church of Jesus Christ did from the outset.
Sunday worship is not a modern thing, but it has been this way since the church was born. Christ was raised to new life on the first day of the week, and it is on that day each week that we celebrate His victory over sin and our new life in Him. Sunday worship must draw its value from its true beginning, honoring the Savior and the greatest victory ever won.

Evangelism Update from Tel Aviv (Bat-Yam, Beer-Sheva and more)
Dear praying friends,
Most probably we are going to start Bible studies in Bat-Yam again. Recently we have got in touch with one woman, Lena, who attended our Bible studies in Tel-Aviv about two and a half years ago and who we helped to get into a Christian rehab. Today she is a believer and free from drugs! She has returned to her husband who is a former addict too (he completed a secular rehab program in prison). They live in Bat-Yam now and have a three-month-old baby. We were glad to see Lena. She looks so well and happy! She would like us to start Bible studies in her home. Please pray for this opportunity and for Lena's family (her husband is not a believer).
We are grateful to the Lord for Aleksey, our new co-worker. Meanwhile he comes from Russia to help us every other month, but this summer he is planning to move to Israel together with his family – at least for one year. Pease pray that God would help him do that and would bless his ministry. Aleksey helps us develop our Negev groups into full-grown independent congregations. He is already serving on his own, without my participation, mostly working with our groups in Beer-Sheva and Dimona (the latter is our largest group of more than 50 people), and our believers accept him with much love and respect.
Thank you for praying for Tanya. She is doing well, holding strong and attending a congregation regularly. She also meets with a believer for personal Bible studies on a regular basis. Besides that, there is a Christian psychologist who is going to help her as well. Tanya’s financial needs, however, are still a big problem. It's been three months since she moved to Haifa, but she has not been able to find any job yet. This turned out to be a much harder task than we thought… Please keep praying.
Please pray also for the Bible studies with women from Tanya's shelter. They want to attend, but it has become difficult (for different reasons) to gather them together each week. I do not want to put pressure on the women, and meanwhile I keep in touch with each of them separately.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
We appreciate your partnership!

With My First Love on Valentine's Day
God does not have me single at this point in my life for me to be lonely, and I am not. I am so happy working hard in ministry and service unto the Lord, my heart is FULL of joy.
I am amazed at how many women have written me, confessing they are lonely. God ordains our loneliness to prune us, and just because a Christian is alone does not mean he or she has to feel lonely. I used to feel lonely, but God used that to draw me closer to Him. This ministry was birthed out of loneliness, when I felt I had nothing but Jesus. Well, HE IS CERTAINLY ENOUGH!
Good friends and pure gifts come from God. If we take a look around, as Christians, we will find we are surrounded by love with much work to do. There is no need to feel lonely or bored.
I prayed by phone today with a member of our NYC team. I realized, as I prayed, that every Christian woman could learn a lot from their example as they plan to set up the table outreach this Sunday. What a wonderful way to enjoy your First Love as a Christian--telling others about Jesus and feeling His joy.
We don't need a "Valentine's Day" to celebrate our loving God who desires such an intimate relationship with us that His desire is to make us happy in Him as we learn what it means to let Him be "everything" to us with every other relationship falling far behind.

With Plenty
From Look Unto Me:
February 10
I know what it is to have plenty. (Philippians 4:12)
From the pen of Charles Spurgeon:
Many people who know "what it is to be in need" (v. 12) have never learned "what it is to have plenty." When they are placed on the mountaintop they get dizzy and are about to fall. In fact, Christians disgrace their profession of faith in Christ much more often during times of prosperity than during adversity. Being prosperous is a dangerous thing and the crucible of adversity is a less severe trial for a Christian than "the refining pot" (Prov. 17:3 NASB) of prosperity.
Oh, what starvation of the soul and the neglecting of spiritual things have been brought about through the very blessings and bounty of God! Yet this is not necessary or inevitable, for the apostle Paul tells us, "I know what it is to have plenty." When he had plenty he knew how to use it, for God's abundant grace enabled him to handle God's abundant prosperity.
When the ship of Paul's life had full sails he had plenty of ballast below deck to stabilize his boat so he could sail safely. It takes more human skill to handle a full cup of unrelenting joy without spilling it, yet Paul had learned that skill, for he declares, "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry" (Phil. 4:12c). Knowing "the secret of being content" when "well fed" is a divine lesson, for God had once given the Israelites "what they craved. But ... even while it was still in their mouths, God's anger rose against them" (Ps. 78:29-31).
Many people have asked for blessings simply to satisfy the lust of their own hearts. Full stomachs have often led to a thirst for blood and a wanton disregard for godliness. When we have plenty of God's providential blessings we often have little regard for God's grace, which leads to very little gratitude for the blessings we have received. When we are full we forget God. Thus, being satisfied with earth, we are content to do without heaven.
Rest assured it is harder to know how to be well fed than it is to know how to be hungry due to the intense propensity of our human nature toward pride and forgetfulness of God. So be careful to pray, asking the Lord to teach you how to be "well fed."
Let not the gifts Your love bestows
Estrange our hearts from You.
(Lowell Mason, 1792-1872)
From the pen of Jim Reimann:
All of us love mountaintop experiences but it is a trap to always be expecting and looking forward to those times of exhilaration. And if we are truly honest we will admit we have learned greater lessons from the Lord while in the valleys of life. Of course, our understanding of what God was doing typically comes much later. Kierkegaard, the Danish philosopher, once wrote, "Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards."
When we compare the mountaintop to the valley we realize that what sustains us--such as water, food, and fellowship--is found in the valley. And, the people who so desperately need our testimony of faith live there!
Lord, may I honor You "in plenty or in want" (Phil. 4:12), and may I live victoriously in the valleys "that the world may know" You (John 17:23 KJV).

Busy with Family
I have had the joy of being with my nephews and little niece this week, and we have not stopped. All the work will be waiting after my precious time with them, so I am making the most of it.
I plan to get back to all the work at the end of this week when I don't have the opportunity to be with my nephews and little niece.
I have been thankful to God as I have spent time with them...for His faithfulness to my family. It has been such a blessing to my heart.

"All the More Indebted to His Love"
I have been so busy this week finishing my book review of God Calling that I have gotten behind on emails. Here is another devotion from Look Unto Me. It is true--I am "all the more indebted to His love" and serve Him as thanksgiving for such love unto me.
February 3
So then, brothers, we are debtors. (Romans 8:12 ESV)
From the pen of Charles Spurgeon:
As people of God's creation we are all debtors to Him, owing Him obedience with our entire body, soul, and strength. And having broken His commandments, as each of us has, we are also debtors to His justice, therefore having a vast debt we are unable to repay.
For Christians, however, it can be said that we are not debtors to God's justice, for Christ has paid the debt His people owed. For this reason believers are all the more indebted to His love. I am a debtor to God's grace and His forgiving mercy but in no way am I a debtor to His justice, for He will never accuse me of a debt that is already paid.
Christ said, "It is finished" (John 19:30), meaning that whatever His people owed was forever wiped away from His book of remembrance. Christ has utterly and completely satisfied divine justice; our account is settled; and the final receipt, signed upon His cross, has been delivered. Therefore we are no longer debtors to God's justice. Yet, for the very reason we are no longer debtors to our Lord's justice, we are ten times more indebted to Him than we would have been otherwise.
Dear Christian, pause for a moment to ponder what a debtor you are to the Divine Sovereign! Think how much you owe to His unselfish love, for He gave His own Son to die for you. Consider how much you owe to His forgiving grace, for even after ten thousand offenses He loves you as infinitely as ever. Consider what you owe to His power--He has raised you from your death in sin, He has preserved your spiritual life, He has kept you from falling, and although a thousand enemies may have crossed your path, you have been empowered to continue on your way. And finally, consider what you owe to His unchangeable nature-though you have changed a thousand times, He has never changed even once.
You are as deeply in debt as you could possibly be to every attribute of God. Therefore you owe the Lord all that you are and all that you have. "Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship" (Rom. 12:1).
From the pen of Jim Reimann:
We owe everything to Christ, for "he bought us with his own blood" (Acts 20:28). As a result many may declare as Peter once did, "I will lay down my life for you" (John 13:37). Of course, he said this just before he denied Jesus three times! To be fair, Peter made this bold claim before the Holy Spirit was given.
Yet it is still easy to say, "I'm willing to die for you, Lord." The question is: How many of us are willing to live for Him? After all, Paul said to "offer your bodies as living sacrifices." Not dead sacrifices!
"For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!" (Ezek. 18:32). "He is not the God of the dead, but of the living" (Luke 20:38). "For in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).
"He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again" (2 Cor. 5:15).

'Taize' Worship Spreading in PCA Churches
Contemplative prayer practices are catching on like fire. Right here in Atlanta, Church of the Redeemer (PCA) has started to incorporate a practice called "Taize" worship. A member of the church emailed me, lamenting that she is going to have to leave the church now, due to extrabiblical practices that are more akin to Eastern spirituality than Christianity. Here is an excerpt from their newsletter this month:
"February 3, 2010 -
This week at Church of the Redeemer:
...2. THINGS TO KNOW
• Art Classes
• Super Bowl
• Taizé Returns
• Field Tripp "
Sadly, Redeemer Presbyterian NYC is now being named among the "SwerveChurches." http://swerve.lifechurch.tv/websites/

For those of us not raised in "swerve churches", managing to know God apart from "Taizing", the maturity and depth of God's Word is still enough for us in getting to know Him in a relationship that is all about what He has done for us on the cross and not based on the pursuit of emotional experiences contrived by man. It may be a narrow road (away from Rome), but He is still ENOUGH on that road!
LTW to NYC: Update from last Sunday

Here is an update from Heidi and the team. (Photos are soon to come.)
Hello Dwayna, Shalom and Peace!!
This past Sunday, we braved the extremely cold weather to once again set up at our usual location beneath the 42nd St./Times Square subway tunnel for our table outreach to reach the lost and the saved alike with our Gospel materials in the form of Bibles in English, Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic languages, various tracts, music cds and teaching cds on various Biblical topics, as well as various books concerning the New Age movements as well as the emergent/contemplative movements and roman catholicism.
One of the initial passersby was a gentlemen who at first, I thought, was curious regarding the Gospel and the attributes and deity of Jesus Christ, who He is and what He has done as He is the Creator as well as the ministry of the Holy Spirit and who He is in relation to Jesus and God the Father. At first, it seemed that the man had genuine intentions of understanding but it soon was made apparent that he was no more than a rabble-rouser who was trying to cause havoc and distraction, as he became very vocal. At a certain point, I refused to answer any more of his questions and urged him to read the Bible as all his questions were answered by the Word of God and, thankfully, Suzi was able to engage with him so that I could continue to minister to true seekers.
Several people passed by who were friends of Suzi and Christine, including one man who happened to remember our ministry when Suzi and Christine used to set up at 79th Street and Broadway. The man was very grateful to have received a book which was an encouragement to him and was very happy to have run into us at our new location. I was able to engage with more people this time out and was able to hand out many materials as well as engage them in spiritual matters, including the need for salvation and the need for repentant faith and regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
There were many police officers in the tunnel but it seems that we had God's favor as they did not stop us from continuing to do our Father's business.
Another lady, who called herself a Roman Catholic, but spoke more to the wisdom of a born-again Christian, engaged with me for quite a while in Spanish. She was very joyful and her love for the Saviour was obvious. She was quoting Bible verses and explained to me how much she loves to talk about Jesus and thinks the Catholic Church has issues. I urged her to make sure she is saved, and to find a good Bible church as the other church teaches "another jesus" and "another gospel".
Several other persons were looking for a decent church to attend and I recommended them to visit my church, Heritage Baptist, and also recommended Pastor Recker's Sunday night radio show which comes on WMCA 570 a.m from 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Once again, requests were made for more complete Bibles in English and Spanish, as well as more music cds and teaching cds in Spanish. I also noticed that since the 7 train line is near where we set up, more Koreans probably pass by our table along with Chinese and other Asians, so there is definitely a need for more Korean materials. A few of the Arabic materials were taken and our last Hebrew/English Tanakh was taken.
While it was really cold, our hearts were warmed to be able to share -- once again -- the Good News that saves!!!

Heidi

"Old-Time Religion" Photos for New Video
age 5, singing a hymn; my mother was playing the piano
age 10, singing in a Baptist church in Louisiana
Age 12, singing a song about Jesus at the Chattanooga Choo Choo :-)
As I look back on these photos, I thank God for saving me at age 5 and never, ever letting me go! I thank Him for a mother who taught me to pray before I could talk plainly and to sing the hymns before I could talk plainly. Those hymns mean so much more to me today! I thank God for renewing me to make me feel NEW in Him and fresh and excited to know Him as my Savior and tell others about Him...(Hopefully, a new video of "Old-Time Religion" will be finished soon with my updated lyrics pertaining to the emergent church movement... :-)
