January Update: Rio Grande Valley

From: Curt & Janie Rolf, leaders

Our first visitor arrived at 9:00 A.M. and was a mom who took an MP3 on “Yoga and the Church.” (I believe this is the first time this particular item left our outreach table).  She was also given a testimony by Lisa, “No Such Thing as Christian Yoga.”  She said her daughter liked to read about Jesus.  I gave her coloring pages on Temptation-Adam & Eve, as well as a  book entitled In the Beginning - The 7 Days of Creation, which ends with Adam and Eve banished from the garden.  This was a good opportunity to confirm that “the story doesn’t end there!!!”

A gal stopped by looking for materials for teens.  She’s teaching about 26 teenagers in her church.  She took materials on Evolution/Creation, including “101 Scientific Facts & Foreknowledge” and a recommended copy of “Knowing Aslan”.

(El Luz de Mundo– The Light of the World (church/ministry) pastor stopped by and described his ministry.  He was thrilled to receive copies of 6 coloring pages/Bible lessons in Spanish and English and appreciated the opportunity to use them in his church.

A fellow stopped by and really scrutinized the materials on the ‘Table’.  He was interested in the new booklet Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church by Paul Washer (Chapel Library).

A gorgeous young lady also really scrutinized the materials and took one of our last copies of “Promesas de Dios” (Promises of God) – a topical devotional, and also took “7 Reasons Why We Should Not Accept Millions of Years” by Terry Mortenson.  She also took a Spanish bookmark “Becoming a Christian.”

(Observation:  It was interesting to watch a mom pull her two young children away from the table.)

WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ON JACKSON ST. TODAY!!!   And many did stop to look over the materials on our table.  PRAISE THE LORD!!!  About 20 copies of the coloring pages on temptation left the table along with many “Hey Kids” tracts by Ray Comfort and 3 NlRV kids’ Bibles.

A Spanish-speaking couple asked if they could take a Spanish version of “The Most Important Story Every Told.” We recently purchased copies of the Spanish version.  She had lost her copy which was given to her about 10 years ago.  It truly is amazing how that little booklet got into our hands and continues to get into the hands of other young people.  It’s like a mini animated version of the Bible beginning with creation and ending with Jesus’ resurrection and God’s plan of salvation.

What a joy!!!  Rosie visited us about two years ago, and we clearly remembered giving her a Bible and her being thrilled to tears over the gift.  As she approached the table, we began to converse.  We remembered that day two years ago and rejoiced.  We talked about many things, including the need for prayer for our families.  This time it became evident she needed a large-print Bible.  Praise the Lord!  We found several of them a few months ago.  Again, she was thrilled almost to tears.  She was also thrilled to receive an NlRV Bible for her grandson.  We expect we’ll hear from her again soon.

As we drove to Jackson St. this morning, we wondered if God REALLY wanted us to continue this ministry.  With Rosie’s visit, and so many other visitors today, it was obvious to both of us that we were, indeed, to continue with this once-a-month apologetics table ministry. Thank you Lord!!!
